How to Create a No Excuses Home Workout Routine

One of the easiest things to do is make an excuse to miss a workout, no matter how necessary it is. According to Statistic Brain, more than 60% of those who subscribe to a gym membership never actually use it.

The number one excuse to forgo a workout is lack of time.

The fact is maintaining a healthy, consistent fitness routine is one of the best things we can do to care for ourselves. When we create a home workout routine, not only do we simplify our daily lives by eliminating a place to commute to, but we also save time AND money.

Our top tips for creating a No-Excuses Home Workout Routine:

Identify your fitness goals.

Are you looking to build strength or maintain your fitness level? Perhaps you want to improve flexibility or lose weight. Consider your skill level; a workout plan for beginners will obviously be different from experienced individuals. Whatever your fitness goals are, identify and build a routine around your workout objectives.

Start with a 20-25 minute commitment and build-up to one hour.

Most people spend 20+ minutes just commuting to the gym. Imagine being done and already home in the same amount of time. Another advantage of at-home workouts is that your home is open 24/7.  The most important thing during your designated workout time is to be focused. It may not be enjoyable, but it will undoubtly be effective if you are intentional.

Create a designated space for your fitness routine.

Nothing fancy is required to work out, but a place that is free and clear of clutter and distractions is best to keep you focused and excuse free. If you have the time and resources, add some inspiration to your home fitness area.

Try to work out at the same time of day.

The timing doesn’t have to be exact, but being consistent with the time of day you exercise will automate your schedule, help develop the habit and condition your body for game time. Establishing a steady fitness routine is a sure-fire way to stay in shape, given that you’re likely to work out more.

Utilize Pinterest or YouTube to find a no-brainer workout.

Don’t know exactly what exercises to do? Too tired to think about it? The quickest and easiest way to begin an at-home fitness routine is via instructor-led video courses. With no equipment requirements, except a smartphone, it’s easy to get started. Each month spend some time putting at-home fitness videos on your watchlist.
